    Once you've gotten rid of that huge diaper bag, it's time for the relative freedom of a purse, but don't kid yourself (snicker), you still need to keep a few essentials in your bag in case of emergency. We all know that being a parent isn't predictable so if you keep these 5 items in your purse, you'll be prepared when those little "emergencies" crop up.

    A Small First Aid Kit

    A mini first aid kit for your purse is a must.  You can purchase first aid kits from the store, or you can make your own! In fact, here's a great tutorial for making your own First Aid Kit! Your first aid kit should contain at least 4 bandaids, 2 alcohol wipes, antibiotic ointment, a pain reliever like Tylenol or Advil, Tums, Benadryl, and tweezers.

    Even though it's possible to purchase almost everything with a debit card, there are some things that you'll need cash for, and you don't want to be stuck without cash when you need it. Think toll roads, farmers markets, vending machines, restaurants you aren't sure you trust, lemonade stands, bake sales, etc.

    Nothing is worse than being stuck somewhere with a cranky, HUNGRY child. Keeping a or two in your purse is just smart parenting, you know? We always try to avoid these situations, but sometimes they happen, and when they do, it's nice to be prepared.

    Wet Wipes and Hand Sanitizer


    It's almost a given that kids get dirty when you go out. At least, mine do. So, be prepared. Keep individually wrapped wet wipes and hand sanitizer in your purse. This way, if your child gets dirty doing what it is they do you (having fun!!!) and you need to clean them up in a hurry, you can.  If touching dirty handles, floors, sneezy friends or more has occurred, you can take care of those germs with hand sanitizer.

    Keeping your smart phone in your purse is an essential because it can keep you safe!  If something happens you can call for emergency services or for someone you trust to come and help you. It also has a built in flash light so that you can illuminate the area if need be. Don't under-estimate the power of navigation if you happen to be lost or the internet for information when you need it. Your smart phone can be your best friend in case of emergency!
