There are a few ways to incorporate the scarecrow theme into a traditional relay race. One is to provide each team with a scarecrow costume that each person must don for their leg of the relay before handing off the costume to the next person. The team that does this the fastest wins. You also can simply use a miniature scarecrow as the item each competitor hands off to the next person on their team for the relay. Or you can set up a race where each competitor collects one item to dress a scarecrow, and the fastest team to complete their scarecrow wins.

Create your own scarecrow bingo cards with autumn-themed images. Arrange the images, so you have several different scarecrows on each sheet of paper. (Mix up the images on each sheet, so no identical versions are printed.) Then, cut out copies of the images, and place them in a straw hat. Have a caller pull images out at random and hold them up for players to see. Players with a matching image on their sheet should mark the spot with a piece of candy corn. The first player to get five in a row wins a prize.

It may not be as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack, but this game is still a challenging and fun activity for a party. To set up, you'll need lots of hay and several mini scarecrows. The scarecrows can be made of simple craft items, such as cardstock or paper bags. Build a haystack, and bury the mini scarecrows inside. Then, set a timer for five minutes, and see whether the players can find all of the scarecrows in the haystack. The person who finds the most wins.

For musical hay bales, set up a row of hay bales with one fewer bale than you have players. Play some music, and have the players walk around the hay bales. Just like in the game of musical chairs, once the music stops the players must sit on a hay bale. The one who is left standing is out. Remove a hay bale, and continue in this way until only one player remains.

Then, set a timer for three minutes, and see who can come up with the most words using the letters in the word scarecrow. For instance, scare, crow, care, acre, cow, and race are all words that are made up of letters within scarecrow.

It wouldn't be a scarecrow-themed party without a scarecrow. So have your guests build one or several. You could have all of your guests collaborate on one scarecrow for a fun activity. Or divide your guests into even teams, and provide everyone with a variety of scarecrow-making materials, such as straw hats, burlap, flannel shirts, bandanas, cornstalks, and lots of hay. Award prizes for various categories, such as the funniest or scariest scarecrows.

If you plan to have a scarecrow-making activity at your party, a fun twist is to hide the necessary items to build it and have guests go on a scavenger hunt to find them. You can even hide multiple sets of items and have teams race to find everything they need to complete a scarecrow. Once all of the materials have been collected, then the players can begin building their scarecrows.

Make one scarecrow and four hats in different colors. Then, take four pieces of poster board in corresponding colors, and tape them to the floor in different corners of the party space. Have one person take the scarecrow out of the room and put one of the hats on it. Turn some music on for the rest of the players to dance to. When the music stops, they should go and stand on the color they think the scarecrow's hat will be. Bring the scarecrow back in, and award a point to those who chose correctly. Continue playing rounds until everyone has had a turn to change the scarecrow's hat. The player(s) with the most points at the end wins.

    Scarecrow Tag

In this game, one player is the scarecrow and the rest are crows. The scarecrow should stand in the middle of the play space with their arms stretched out. Divide the crows into two equal groups, and send them to opposite sides of the space. When you say go, all of the crows must "fly" to the opposite side of the space within arm's reach of the scarecrow. And the scarecrow must try to tag as many players as they can without moving their feet. Anyone who is tagged is out, and play continues until only one player is left. That player then gets to be the scarecrow.
