Lauren Aloise fell in love with Spanish cuisine while living in southern Spain. Addicted to jamón ibérico, extra virgin olive oil, and Spanish wine, she set out to learn everything possible about traditional Spanish food. Fascinated by the incredible diversity found in Spanish cooking, she started a food and travel blog called Spanish Sabores, and later founded the award winning Spanish food tour company, Devour Spain. Lauren is based in Madrid, but travels the country as much as possible in search of the stories behind the recipes.

Experience

Lauren grew up learning to cook her family’s heirloom recipes— everything was made from scratch. She went on to work in a variety of restaurants, and moved to Spain with the dream of learning the ins and outs of Spanish cuisine. What she didn’t learn from practice, her Spanish mother-in-law taught her in her tiny Spanish kitchen.

Lauren’s full time job is promoting Spanish food, whether it’s through her food blog, or with her company’s food tours. She hopes to educate people about the incredible Spanish foods and products that she enjoys so much! 

Education

Lauren holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language. She has also completed the Award in Wines and Spirits with WSET.

I may be biased but I’d certainly argue that much of the world’s best wine, olive oil, cured meats, cheeses, canned fish (the list goes on) comes from Spain. I'm proud to live in a country chock full of gastronomic delicacies and passionate local food producers, but sometimes they struggle with getting their message out to the world. I want to tell you the story of Spanish cuisine; the incredible history behind its most famous dishes, and the story of the amazing people behind the food. 

I hope that my contributions help you understand what Spanish food really is, and that my recipes make you think “Wow! I have to make that!”. Buen provecho!
