Laurie Mansfield Reiter

Laurie Mansfield Reiter is a fact-based, ethical journalist who has worked as a reporter and editor for some of the nation’s largest media companies including Gannett, McClatchy, The Associated Press, and Fox Sports. She got her start reviewing and recommending products in 2000 as the Home and Garden editor at The Des Moines Register and eventually became one of the youngest department managers at The Kansas City Star, where she supervised all aspects of lifestyle and entertainment coverage.

Laurie and the teams she has led have produced award-winning journalism in a variety of areas including investigative, features and sports reporting, design, and photography.
Laurie is a lifelong Girl Scout and Gold Award recipient who is passionate about volunteering, especially in her children’s schools. She is an advocate for special education and diversity, equity, and inclusion and was instrumental in helping her son’s elementary school become one of the first in the Los Angeles area to be officially designated as a No Place For Hate school by the Anti-Defamation League.

Experience

For nearly 30 years, Laurie has worked as a reporter, editor, and content strategist in more than 10 national and international newsrooms. After she was twice named the Young Iowa Journalist of the Year by the Iowa Press Association for outstanding narrative writing, she was selected to help develop and lead some of Gannett and McClatchy’s most important and innovative newsroom niche products for people in their 20s and 30s. She enjoys researching and reporting complex topics to create clear, accurate communication for her audience. She and her husband are both Midwesterners who now live in Los Angeles where they are trying to raise their two children to know "the time is always right to do what is right."

Education

Laurie is the first in her family to graduate from college and has a Master’s degree in journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis on biological sciences from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.

Awards:

Twice awarded Young Iowa Journalist of the Year (2002, 2004) by the Iowa Newspaper Association for outstanding narrative writing.
