The dot stitch, also known as the sand or spot stitch, is perfect for beginners.  If you can knit and purl you can master this pattern in no time at all. The pattern itself is easy to remember which means it's great to bring along to any knitting circle.

Why Choose the Dot Stitch?

This is a reversible pattern making it perfect for afghans and scarfs. It creates a studded texture which many people consider very masculine.

It's often used in sports garments or menswear. It's a great stitch for those who prefer to knit in the round.

The Dot Stitch Pattern

The Dot Stitch works on an even number of stitches.

Row 1 (right side): Knit.

Row 2: *Knit 1, purl 1. Repeat from * across.

Row 3: Knit.

Row 4: *Purl 1, knit 1. Repeat from * across.

Repeat four rows for pattern.

The wrong side of this stitch, where the purls are prevalent, is known as Sand Stitch.
