Sheets stay cool
We purchased Linenwalas' Bamboo Sheets so our writer could put them to the test in her own home. Keep reading for our full product review.
When looking for the perfect sheets, a lot of people choose cotton without even thinking about it. But bamboo sheets are just as good as cotton sheets. Plus, they’re more eco-friendly. Since bamboo grows very fast, they’re a more sustainable choice. When choosing sheets, material, weave, and thread count are some factors to consider, along with how easy the sheets are to care for, and how durable they are. We tested a king set of the Linenwalas Bamboo Sheets in the Bahamas Blue color. Keep reading our review to see how they held up.
Material and Weave: Cooling and soft to the touch
The Linenwalas Bamboo Sheets are made from 100 percent rayon from bamboo fibers. These fibers are breathable and typically feel cooler than cotton sheets. This enhanced comfort means less waking up in the middle of the night to kick off your sheets. Another plus about bamboo fabric is it is naturally moisture-wicking and odor-resistant.
On top of being made out of cooling bamboo fabric, these sheets are made with a sateen weave. With this weave, instead of horizontal (weft) threads being woven in between just one vertical (warp) thread, they overlap multiple threads at a time. This makes the material softer than normal and also gives the sheets a slight satiny sheen.
We’re happy to report that sleeping in these sheets is a treat. They stayed cool, and they felt delightfully soft on our skin. However, they do wrinkle easily, which may or may not matter to you.
Thread Count: Right where it should be
These sheets have a 300 thread count of 100 percent rayon from bamboo fibers. Typically, the “ideal” thread count—which is simply how many threads are in a square inch of fabric—for high-quality sheets is 500 to 600 threads per inch. However, a higher thread count isn’t always better, especially for sateen sheets. These sheets are proof of that. They feel great, stay cool, and look beautiful on our bed.
Texture: Refreshingly cool and soft as silk
We love sleeping in between these sheets. From the way they glide over our skin to how they help to keep us cool.
The word “soft” on its own doesn’t tell you enough. There are many types of “soft” like fuzzy, buttery, or downy. Linenwalas Bamboo Sheets are silky soft. These sheets are super smooth with a slight sheen to them due to the sateen weave. We think the softness can be credited equally to the bamboo fibers, special weave, and thread count.
Washing: Simple, but take allergies into account
Caring for the Linenwalas Bamboo Sheets is as simple as caring for the rest of your delicate fabrics. The manufacturer recommends washing the sheets in cold water, as washing them in hot water can increase the chance of your sheets pilling. While line drying is preferred, these sheets can go in the dryer on low heat. Fabric softener and dryer sheets aren’t recommended, so we used wool dryer balls with no issues.
One thing to keep in mind is that these sheets shouldn’t be dried on high heat. If you’re used to using a high-heat setting to kill bacteria for allergies, that could be an issue. However, these sheets are dust repellent and anti-microbial, so that can help balance out that issue.
Price: A little high, but definitely worth it
Depending on the size you get, these sheets retail between the $50 to $100 price range. For bamboo sheets, that’s on the high side of the mid-price range. However, since they’re such great sheets, we think they’re worth the price—especially since caring for them isn’t too hard.
Linenwalas has a 7-day return policy from the day the order is delivered to you, which is a nice touch but could definitely be better. Still, it’s better than nothing. So keep in mind that you do have seven days to make up your mind about whether or not you like the sheets.
Competition: Cheaper or higher-quality sheets
Cariloha Resort Bamboo Sheets: This sheet set is in the luxury range of bamboo sheets. As you can expect, the price matches their quality—the queen size sheets start at $239. Their sateen-weave softness is unmatched. Everything about them screams excellence and luxury. Crawling into these sheets will have you feeling like royalty, and they really do help you to stay cooler at night. When compared to the much-more-affordable Linenwalas Bamboo Sheets, there isn’t a vast difference in the feel of the sheets. It’s almost a tie for us with the Cariloha sheets just barely coming out on top. If cost is a consideration, then hands down, the Linenwalas sheets are the better option here.
Zen Bamboo Luxury 1500 Series Bed Sheets: These sheets are much cheaper (usually around $30 to $40), but there’s a reason. They’re only 40 percent bamboo with the rest of the material made from polyester. The polyblend holds them back from being breathable sheets. And since more than half of the material is polyester, they’re not as eco-friendly as an option. Still, there are a few pluses: They truly are wrinkle-resistant, the washing process is simple and easy, and they’re a little thicker. But overall, we’d have to say that the Linenwalas sheets will probably be a better option in the long run.
