She's worked as a consultant, writer and editor for the Screen Actors Guild, WarnerMedia, PBS, MBI Publishing, and WebMD. Taylor also writes blogs for companies in the pool, patio, and home and garden industries. Prior to freelancing, she was an editor and writer for KCET Los Angeles (PBS)) and the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. Taylor is on the board of directors for Preserve Orange County, for which she researches, writes, and edits articles for the website and social media. She is currently writing a book on garden design.
A native of Southern California, Taylor was born into a family of artists, educators, and do-it-yourselfers. She would tag along with her art professor father when he took his college students on field trips to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and thought everyone's family shopped at Scandinavian furniture stores and helped build A-frame playhouses with Dutch doors and adjoining decks.
Taylor lives with her family in a mid-century modern house with an authentic 1964-built swimming pool that they maintain themselves. A few of their many outdoor projects include creating and installing mosaic tile for the pool, designing and constructing two decks, and creating a courtyard patio with a vertical garden. Several years ago, Taylor took a shovel to her front lawn and replaced it with lots of drought-tolerant plants, succulents, and hardscape. She now has a mature water-wise yard, but is thinking of redesigning the hardscape because DIYers are always looking for ways to improve.
Taylor has a B.A. in Art from the College of Environmental Design at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She studied landscape design at Saddleback College and is certified in fine and decorative arts appraisal from the University of California, Irvine.
