How To Make Friendship Bracelets Using Strand Bands

How to Make friendship bracelets with strand bands
The Bridge Direct

Many children enjoy making friendship bracelets. They spend hours winding and braiding yarn and gimp. They watch do-it-yourself videos on YouTube and many like twisting creating rings, bracelets and other gifts now using Strand Bands, instead of or in addition to their Rainbow Loom.

Strand Bands, is a fun way to engage in making bracelets, rings, backpack tassels, zipper pulls, headbands, hair accessories, shoelaces, and keychains without the need for yarn or those teeny tiny circular bands.

Items created can range from the simple to the complex. It can engage the interest of a child new to the creative arts, while also providing an opportunity for more seasoned designers who like a lot of challenge but versatility to create something unique.

Strand Bands appear as thick, colorful flat laces. However, what makes their design different is the ability to pull apart each strand into 6 different thinner strands. The band is knotted at one end, then placed on the hook underneath clip of the unique styler kit. Children can separate out each individual strand (up to 6), then position them into one of the 7  "teeth" or notched grooves at the bottom of the styler. No need for tape to secure items to a table, children can craft and create anywhere, in the comfort of their home, at a friends house or even while traveling. The styler kit has a large open center, and provides a way for kids to carefully plan their stitches and weaves, as well as add decorative beads.

Within only a few minutes kids and adults can create a simple strand band bracelet with one attached charm. Strand Band kits are recommended for kids ages 8 and up, as bracelets and accessories that require braiding and weaving are more challenging. The directions are in black and white, so check YouTube and the the  Strands Band website for many well-produced step-by-step videos.

As is the case with most arts and crafts activities, definitely create a storage solution. All of the pieces from the original kit fit inside one sandwich size re-sealable bag, but for dedicated crafters, they may require a case or something sturdier.
