How to Make Mashed Potatoes​

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 pounds potatoes (peeled, cut in 2-inch chunks)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 heaping tablespoon snipped fresh chives
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. milk (or more as needed)
  • Salt, to taste

How to Make It

  1. Put potatoes in a medium saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil, cover, and reduce heat to medium-low. Continue cooking until tender, about 12 to 15 minutes.
  2. Drain the potatoes thoroughly and transfer to a bowl.
  3. Mash or beat the hot potatoes with the butter and sour cream. Add milk as needed to thin the mixture.
  4. Blend in the chives, pepper, and salt.
