Master Forge 5-Burner Gas Grill Model# 678489 - Discontinued

Master Forge Gas Grill 5-Burner Model# 678489
Master Forge 5-Burner Gas Grill Model# 678489. Lowes

The Bottom Line

This model has been discontinued. The closest replacement is the Master Forge 5-Burner Stainless Steel Model# 3218LT.

Of all the store brand grills out there, loaded with features and built big to look impressive, this is the only one made in the United States. Built in Onward Manufacturing's Huntington, IN factory this Master Forge Gas Grill has the same features that make Broil King Grills great but at a smaller price (reduced before it hit stores from $599USD to $499USD).

This grill is loaded with features from a full-length standard rear mounted rotisserie burner to its cast iron cooking grates, five burners and 10,000 BTU side burner. And while the side burner is underpowered this is an impressive grill for the price.

Guide Review - Master Forge 5-Burner Gas Grill Model# 678489

In 2009, Onward Manufacturing Company of Canada bought a factory in Huntington, IN to start turning out a new line of gas grills.

Turns out that they are also using this factory to make this Lowe's store brand grill under the Master Forge name. Good news is that this Master Forge Gas Grill has the same great features you find on Broil-King grills at a much more reasonable price. Hopefully, this is more than just a fluke and that it will stay on the market and hold at this price.

This grill features a couple of the best features of Broil-King grills. First is the dual-tube stainless steel burners. These specially designed burners create even heating by maintaining constant gas pressure front to back. Something other tubular burners can't do. This grill also has the linear flow control valves that give you great control over temperature.

Packed onto this grill is also a standard side burner though at 10,000 BTUs it isn't going to produce a lot of heat. Great for warming up a small saucepan or maybe frying a couple of eggs, but it will take a long time to bring a large pot of water to a boil. You also get a full rotisserie system including the spit and forks and a rear mounted 18,000 BTU full-width rotisserie burner. This is not an infrared burner, but this one works just as well and isn't as fragile as many of the ceramic IR burners.

One curious note is that this grill has a tag on it saying that it has a new lower price ($499USD), but it never actually sold at the price they say it was reduced from ($599USD). Strange how marketing works isn't it?
