Mid-Summer Spanish Tapas Menu

Although we love to spend time outside in the summer, staying active, or just relaxing on the patio, none of us want to prepare an elaborate meal, or even planning it. So, use this mid-summer Spanish dinner menu to put on the buffet and let your family "graze."

Don't be scared away if it looks like a long list! Only two of the menu items require cooking! The rest only need slicing or to be arranged on a serving dish. If you prepare everything on the list, you will have a dinner for 6,...MORE and may still have leftovers.

    The Spanish prepare simple salads, which complement the main courses. Cucumber, tomato and red onion slices combine with uncomplicated olive oil and vinegar dressing.

    A classic summer salad that takes 5 minutes to prepare. Toss sliced tomatoes, green pepper and onions on a plate, then drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and vinegar. Sprinkle with salt and sere.

    The Tortilla Espanola or Spanish Omelet is a very common dish in Spain. It is also called Tortilla de Patata (Potato Omelet).     Round beef or sirloin steaks, sliced thinly make an easy main course, then they are breaded with a bit of flour and minced garlic (or garlic powder), then fried lightly in olive oil.

    Make the wonderful tapa of Manchego cheese, jamon Serrano and Spanish chorizo last longer by slicing them and placing them atop of thin slices of a baguette. This is guaranteed to be a favorite at your dinner.

    Bread is ever-present on the Spanish table, so you should make sure that you slice 2 baguettes and lay them out in a basket, in addition to bread used above.

    In Spain wine is served daily at the large midday meal, as well as at dinner, and while tasting tapas at bars. For this dinner, we recommend a robust red wine, such as a red Rioja wine. Spanish wine has become very popular around the world in the last 10-15 years, so finding a bottle of good quality, reasonably-priced Spanish wine should be an easy task, and no Spanish meal should be served without it.

    "Membrillo" or "Dulce de Membrillo" is a sweet, very dense jelly or paste made from the fruit of the quince tree. It is delicious when sliced and served with creamy cheese and bread.
