Nancy Lopez-McHugh is a professional freelance food writer, photographer, and all around spicy food aficionado with more than 5 years food blogging experience via her popular spiciefoodie.com site. She is the author of two books, An Epiphany of the Senses, an eclectic collection of spicy recipes from around the world, and Yummy Pics, a popular how-to guidebook to the art of photographing food.

Experience

Having been raised in a traditional small town Mexican environment, Nancy’s education in food preparation began with watching and learning from her grandmother, mother, and aunts as they would prepare classic Mexican recipes with their own personal and regional flair.  This instilled a passion for food that followed with her eventually to Europe, where she spent more than a decade learning a variety of spicy recipes from new friends in the international expat community, developing a newfound passion for the spicy cuisines of Asia. Combining this delicious ‘hobby’ with her experience as a photographer and writer, she founded her website in 2009 which led to a new career as ‘Spicie Foodie’.  Since then, her food writing, photography, and delicious recipes have been widely published by such noted entities as The Huffington Post, NBC Latino, Woman’s Health, Gourmet, VegNews, The Guardian, and is an official blogger for the worldwide ‘Meatless Monday’ campaign. 

Education

Her education with food is entirely self-taught, and what she has learned from family and friends. She formally studied photography and earned her diploma from the Prague Film School in the Czech Republic, and has more than 10 years of photographic and post-production experience. She began writing as a child, and having majored in literature and creative writing during her preparatory education, Nancy has had several short stories and poems published (in both Spanish and English) since the first at the young age of 15.
