5 DIY Upcycle Projects Using Just Spray Paint

A little spray can go a long way—especially if that spray is rose gold. Turn the cheap, old and the lackluster into modern accessories with a can of rose gold spray paint.     Dipped Vase

    The Spruce

    Materials

    • Glass vase, any shape and size
    • Masking tape
    • Rose gold spray paint, or any color of your choosing
    • Paper to wrap around the vase
    • Paper, plastic or cardboard to protect surfaces from paint​
    • Safety mask
    • Gloves

    How-to:

    1. Wrap the half or part of the vase that you don’t want to paint in paper and use the masking tape to get a straight edge between the painted and unpainted sections.

    2. Protect the surrounding area before spray painting. Work in a well ventilated area and wear a safety mask and gloves.

    3. Shake...MORE the spray paint vigorously and test the spray before applying to the vase.

    4. Following the instructions on the can, spray the exposed part of the vase lightly. Cover the section completely and thoroughly in paint.

    5. Allow the paint to dry and hold it up to a window to be sure the coverage is complete.

    6. If needed, touch up any light areas and let dry.

    7. Once the paint is completely dry–overnight is best–remove the paper and masking tape.

    Grown-Up Alphabet Magnets

    • Set of magnetic letters
    • Rose gold spray paint, or any color of your choosing
    • Paper, plastic or cardboard to protect surfaces from paint​

    How-to:

    1. Protect the surrounding area before spray painting. Work in a well ventilated area and wear a safety mask and gloves.

    2. Place the magnetic letters on paper or use a cardboard box

    3. Shake the spray paint vigorously. Spray a test area before applying the paint.

    4. Following the instructions on the can, spray paint a few light layers over all...MORE the letters, from the top and different angles to ensure you get into all the corners. Apply a few coats to cover evenly. Allow to dry overnight before using.

    Space Rock Bookends

    • 2 large rocks
    • Rose gold spray paint, or any color of your choosing
    • Paper, plastic or cardboard to protect surfaces from paint​
    • Safety mask
    • Gloves

    How-to:

    1. Forage 2 nicely sized and shaped rocks. Wash them thoroughly and let dry completely.

    2. Protect the surrounding area before spray painting. Work in a well ventilated area and wear a safety mask and gloves.

    3. Shake the spray paint vigorously. Spray a test area before applying the paint.

    4. Following the instructions on the can, spray paint a few light...MORE layers around the rock at different angles to cover the surface.

    5. Allow to dry, then flip your work. Continue this process until the rock is completely and thoroughly covered. Allow to dry overnight before using.

    Colored Twigs

    • Twigs or branches

    How-to:

    1. Place the twigs on a covered surface

    2. Protect the surrounding area before spray painting. Work in a well ventilated area and wear a safety mask and gloves.

    3. Shake the spray paint vigorously. Spray a test area before applying the paint.

    4. Following the instructions on the can of spray paint, spray one side of the twigs. Allow to dry.

    Gilded Lamp Shade

    • Lamp shade
    • Rose gold spray paint, or any color of your choosing
    • Masking tape
    • Paper, plastic or cardboard to protect surfaces from paint
    • Safety mask

    How-to:

    1. Use masking tape to cover the edges of the shade. Carefully press the tape down and be sure it forms a clean straight line between the area you will paint and the area you won’t paint.  

    2. Protect the surrounding area before spray painting. Work in a well ventilated area and wear a safety mask and gloves.

    4. Let dry overnight and then gently remove the tape.
