Breathing Room Organization

As much as we love it, as soon as October rolls around, our homes become an endless cycle of seasonal decor. Unfortunately, storing things between holidays is less fun and more of a logistical nightmare.

We recently connected with Ryane Montañez, the senior director of marketing and creative at mDesign, who gave us some tips, tricks, and product suggestions for storing everything from your favorite Halloween wreath to your leftover Christmas gift wrapping.

“Properly storing ornaments and other holiday décor items helps to prevent damage like breaking, rusting, and fading in color,” Montañez says. “This is especially important if you have any ornaments that have been passed down within the family and want to protect them to keep the tradition going.”

Store Your Ornaments So You Can See Them

Anyone who has tried to keep the original boxes for their Christmas balls and baubles know that they’re not built to last, but Montañez has the perfect solution for ornaments of all shapes and (most) sizes.

“Our lidded fabric box keeps ornaments neatly separated and easy to see with a clear view window, so ornaments can be safely put away and are ready to go for next year,” Montañez says. “Having the right storage container means less worry about your ornaments breaking or losing their color in between use.”

Preserve the Life of Your Faux Tree

If you’re wondering if dedicated faux-tree storage is truly necessary, Montañez says the answer is a resounding yes. “If holiday décor is stored properly, it should stay intact and look just as good for more than one holiday season, resulting in less need to repurchase new décor year-over-year," he explains.

Save your artificial tree year after year in a solid storage bag. "Your tree will be protected in the storage bag, ensuring that it doesn’t get damaged, warped, or dirty," Montañez explains. "It also keeps out moisture and pests while away for eleven months of the year.”

Don’t Toss Your Wreaths—Real or Faux

“Wreaths should always be stored in a bag, as it keeps them neat, organized, and easy to find,” Montañez says. “Our wreath storage bag is made of a breathable non-woven synthetic fabric, which helps the wreath retain its fragrance, keep moisture out, and extend its life."

Best of all, using a dedicated storage bag functions as a space saver. Montañez explains that proper storage makes more space for storing items in your garage, basement, attic, under beds, or even in small spaces while protecting the delicate wreath materials from varied elements.

If you’re thinking this only applies to fake wreaths, Montañez assures us that’s not true. “Real wreaths can be dried and saved as long as they are stored away from sources of water/humidity, as this can lead to mold and mildew," he says.

Save and Re-Use Your Gift Wrap

To start up a collection of holiday gift wrap, Montañez recommends keeping it all in one, easy-to-access place. “I recommend starting with the essentials, like a gift wrap storage bag which is perfect for keeping gift wrap tidy and allows you to store it out of the way, such as under a bed,” he tells us.

“If you want your gift wrap to be slightly more accessible, there are also boxes on offer that allows you to easily grab your gift wrap when it is time to wrap presents," he explains.

Stockpile Your Ribbons and Bows, Too

Spare ribbons and bows are also worth saving, whether you plan to use them to adorn future gifts or decor.  As Montañez tells us, “Our ribbon dispenser keeps smaller items both organized and user-friendly. Products like this make finding ribbons and bows both convenient and manageable during the hectic holiday season."
