The pink baby room is a classic choice for baby girls, obvious shorthand for age-old notions of femininity and rosy-cheeked innocence. While gender-neutral nursery design has been on the rise in recent years, the ubiquity of pink in grown-up interiors—currently found everywhere from the kitchen to the bathroom and primary bedroom—has proven that pink is a feel-good color that appeals to people of all ages and genders to the point that it has become something of a neutral. There is nothing wrong with a girly pink baby room that celebrates classic definitions of femininity, but there are plenty of ways to design a nursery using pink in a fresh, modern way that doesn’t lean too far into gender norms or princessy clichés.
"The important thing is to create a space that doesn’t feel too precious by layering in different tones of pink,” says interior designer Rebecca Simon of Maison Ellie, who specializes in kids spaces. “Don’t match every pink perfectly! Mix a soft blush pink rug with deeper pink bedding. Play up different patterns and textures as well, to create more interest for your eye. And always mix in neutrals and wood tones to balance out the pink. You want the pink elements to feel complementary to the overall design."
Check out these pink baby rooms for ideas and inspiration on how to create a rose-colored nursery that ranges in style from classic to contemporary.
