Have you ever felt discouraged when trying hard to be your very best? Whether you want to improve the way you treat people or simply improve your manners, maybe these quotes can inspire you.

Be Yourself

Trying to be someone you're not is frustrating and gives you the appearance of being a poser. Be honest with people, even when you're trying to impress a prospective employer during a job interview.

Lying will backfire and eventually catch up with you, letting people know you can't be trusted.

"Insist on yourself; never imitate. Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life's cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another you have only an extemporaneous half possession." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be Content

Although there is nothing wrong with having goals (in fact, you should constantly strive to improve), you should be satisfied with where you are at any given time. In other words, enjoy the moment. Accept what you have with grace and dignity, even when you're working hard to make things better.

"The question for each man to settle is not what he would do if he had means, time, influence and educational advantages; the question is what he will do with the things he has. The moment a young man ceases to dream or to bemoan his lack of opportunities and resolutely looks his conditions in the face, and resolves to change them, he lays the corner-stone of a solid and honorable success." ~Hamilton Wright Mabie

Make Wise Use of Your Time

I think we've all heard people complain about not having enough time to do whatever it is we want to do. Some people even use it as an excuse for failure. If you look at others who have long lists of accomplishments, you'll see that if you work hard and smart, you can do quite a bit.

Show up on time, don't make excuses, and get to work.

"Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Louis Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein." ~H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Take Your Eyes Off Yourself

Be kind and generous to others. Show respect for people who have been around the block a few times. If you're not constantly thinking about how things affect you, your life will be much more enjoyable and rewarding.

"Dedicate your life to a cause greater than yourself, and your life will become a glorious romance and adventure." ~Mack Douglas

Take Action

Will Rogers, B.J. Marshall, and Christopher Reeve hit the target by saying that you shouldn't expect something when you sit around and wait for it to happen without effort. Start with a goal, come up with a plan, set some objectives, and do whatever it takes to accomplish what you want.

"Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there." ~Will Rogers

"If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time." ~B.J. Marshall

"So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon seem inevitable." ~Christopher Reeve

Enjoy Life

As children, we see every new experience as an adventure. Something happens when we move into adulthood; we become reliant on routine, so we miss the moments we should be cherishing.

"Because of our routines we forget that life is an ongoing adventure." ~Maya Angelou
