As we gear up for summer, they gave us their top tip for any homeowner with a backyard or garden that will require watering all season long.
What item made your work life easier this week/month/lately?
Kate Anne Gross and Ryan Gross: Smart irrigation controllers/timers, like the Rachio 3.
Rachio 3 8-Zone Smart Sprinkler Controller
It allows your gardener to remotely check in on and update your irrigation settings as the weather fluctuates so that your plantings and lawn are better cared for.
Why is this item so great?
KAG & RG: It is water-wise by staying connected through WiFi to the local weather station, and it automatically pauses your watering in the event of rain.
Where/how do you use this item most?
KAG & RG: We install this system for many of our residential clients, and we’ve found they really enjoy the convenience and extra care it allows their gardener to provide.
How did you discover this item?
KAG & RG: We’ve been using these systems for a number of years now. We like to stay up to date on innovative products and systems that can better serve our designs.
Will you use this item in the future?
KAG & RG: Most definitely. We see this type of system being integrated more and more as the technology continues to improve.
How has this item made your job easier?
KAG & RG: We pour our hearts into the design of every property we do for clients and we always want to see their plantings flourish long after we’re done, which this helps to achieve.
How might someone not in your line of work benefit from this item?
KAG & RG: Any homeowner would benefit by having their landscape installer or maintenance professional install this type of smart controller so that the watering can be properly monitored for the client whether or not the homeowner is tech-savvy themselves.
What, if anything, would you change about this item?
KAG & RG: I would like to see better pinpoint accuracy on weather location settings, as they can be a little broad in range.
Are there any care/use tips someone considering this item should know about?
KAG & RG: Not particularly. It is best for a landscape professional to install and program the timer for the homeowner to ensure everything is set right.
