Right Gin is an excellent choice for those drinkers who prefer the slightly sweeter side of gin. While it is certainly not as sweet as a genever or Old Tom, Right is also not a London Dry - instead it falls between these styles.
Its botanical bouquet is delightful and this Swedish gin is, overall, a great find, especially for those not partial to the dryness or juniper-pine flavor of the popular London dry gins like Beefeater.
Right Gin is one that is bound to lead the revolution as the gin market opens up to newer profiles that do not fit into any particular style.
There are two tests that I put Right Gin to while tasting it: the classic Gin Martini and a comparison with a popular London dry gin.
In the Martini tasting I found Right Gin to be comparable to others, producing a very fine cocktail with a slightly rosier profile than one made with a London dry. It pairs perfectly with dry vermouth and is a fantastic gin to leave in the spotlight of such a transparent cocktail.
This is also what I found in a straight side-by-side comparison with Tanqueray London Dry Gin. Right Gin is considerably sweeter, certainly not as dry, though it has a richer palate. Where Tanqueray has a dark botanical profile, Right has a bright one; Tanqueray has a strong finish that is extremely dry, while Right is slightly refreshing.
Given Right Gin's sweeter profile, semi-sweet drinks are a given. Classic cocktails like the Perfect Martini, Martinez, and New Orleans Fizz become a new experience with Right It also stands up to the newer and more complex Charmides, Eagle Cocktail, and Ginspresso Martini.
Right Gin has a very fragrant and herbal nose marked considerably by juniper and accented with rose, orange and cardamom.
The entry is very smooth and slightly spicy, leading to a silky palate with light juniper and herbaceous undertones. Right Gin finishes nicely, slightly warmer and has a spicy juniper and cardamom note that lingers.
