This is one of my original cocktails and it just happens to be a product of one of those lazy summer afternoons and a "what's in the bar today?" revelation.

Much like a Tequila Sunrise, the Ruby Rum Sunrise features the rising of grenadine throughout the drinking experience, only here it is set against a lighter, ruby red backdrop. I also prefer to shake the main ingredients and pour them over ice, which makes the entire drink lighter and ensures the sour mix is sufficiently blended with its compatriots.

How to Make It

  1. Pour the rum, grapefruit juice and sour mix into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.
  4. Pour grenadine on top until it covers the bottom of the glass.
