In the Saketini, the sake acts like cthe vermouth of a classic Martini and adds a different nuance to the drink that only the "rice wine" can contribute.

Technically, sake is not a "wine," but is more like beer because it is brewed from rice. You'll see a lot of Sake Martini recipes and they vary greatly: many add an orange liqueur and some utilize more sake than this one.

Another option is the garnish. Typically it is an olive, but I like to go a little brighter and use an Asian fruit like a lychee for a unique adornment.

What You'll Need

  • 2 1/2 ounces gin
  • 1/2 ounce sake
  • Olive for garnish

How to Make It

  1. Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with an olive.

How Strong is the Saketini?

As with most liquor-only martinis, this Saketini is not a light drink and that's despite the fact that most sake is only 15% ABV. No, this innocent cocktail is a heavy-weight and comes in around 30% ABV (60 proof). That's only slightly less than the bottling strength of the average gin, so take it easy with this one.
