We started our sandwich tour at @slurpingturtle, which was recommended by our Detroit sandwich homie @brownboyswag (who co-authored our Ann Arbor sandwich tour), for some of their pork belly steamed buns + ramen... And yeah, they were definitely an A+.Continue to 2 of 9 below.

Next on the list was @hannahsbretzel. where we enjoyedthe most gorgeous serrano ham, manchego, homemade fig chutney + shaved fennel pretzel baguette! Hannah's is especially awesome because of their high standards they hold when running their business. Little Goat Diner
820 W Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60607
You might have heard of this amazing "diner", created by one of the most awesome Top Chef ladies in history - Stephanie Izard. Stephanie is one of Chicago's iconic chefs and her Little Goat Burger is no joke. Piled high with a goat patty, braised beef, BBQ pork, approximately 1 million different pickles, onion rings, piri piri sauce + melted cheddar on brioche, this sandwich needs a knife and a fork.Continue to 4 of 9 below.

We also hit up XOCO, a Mexican fast food style restaurant created by another one of Chicago's top chefs, Rick Bayless. We tried a few things (eh hem loaded guacamole oh my god) but most importantly, the ahogada, which is made with golden pork carnitas, black beans, + pickled onions submerged in tomato-arbol chile broth!Continue to 5 of 9 below.

Although it was 1 degree the morning we stopped by Cafecito, we warmed right up when we tried their cuban roast pork sandwich with caramelized onions, guava BBQ sauce, pineapple jicama slaw + cheesy scrambled eggs. They also have a vegetarian breakfast sandwich made with cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato, and house made chimichurri that was truly amazing.Continue to 7 of 9 below.

Bang Bang Pie
2051 N California Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
I don't typically order many grilled cheese sandwiches since I've been blogging about it for so many years, but this one from Bang Bang Pie is not to be missed. Made with homemade pimento cheese, that's studded with beautiful chunks of gorgonzola (or blue?), grilled between a split biscuit and served with a homemade seasonal soup - this time a classic tomato bisque.Continue to 8 of 9 below.

We heard about Au Cheval from almost everyone when we mentioned that we were on a sandwich tour of Chicago... but everyone said we had to try the burger. After reading about it and seeing all the buzz, I felt like that had been covered enough so I wanted to try something that struct me as innovative. Cue their house-made fried bologna sandwich with american cheese. It may not get all the attention it deserves but man, it won our hearts.Continue to 9 of 9 below.
