When it comes to trampolines like the Skywalker Trampolines 9x15 Trampoline and Enclosure, the options are vast. You can choose from round, rectangle, lower, or higher—or opt for any combination of nets, bumpers, and zippers galore. It can be hard to narrow down the right option for your family, especially if your trampoline is going to be used for some serious tumbling practice. We tested out this top-rated trampoline to see just how well it held up to bouncy, back-tuck-throwing cheerleaders and hyper mini gymnasts alike. Was the track long enough to accommodate a high school cheerleader’s tumbling runs? Would the springs give enough to launch a young bouncer sky-high? Read on to find out.

Packaging: Three large boxes and dozens of pieces

Skywalker’s rectangular trampoline arrived at our door in three large boxes containing a series of heavy frame pieces, bags of springs, and copious amounts of hardware. When we say large boxes, we mean it: This trampoline comes bearing a massive amount of pieces. Still, even with what felt like hundreds of tiny nuts and bolts, the pieces were clearly labeled. We were able to easily organize them into similar groups, which made construction a much simpler process than we’d anticipated. This trampoline also came with everything we needed to put the trampoline together, other than the serious muscle power it requires for the actual construction.

Design: A long tumbling track that still seems compact

We were really impressed with the design of this trampoline, especially compared to a more traditional one. It’s clear from the moment you remove the pieces of the frame from the box that the item is made for some serious wear and tear. The legs felt incredibly heavy, despite being several pieces, and we had a feeling early on that this trampoline could withstand tumbling runs from our 120-pound high school cheerleader.

The trampoline’s full dimensions are 15 x 9 feet, but that’s including the frame. The actual jump surface area is about 92.3 square feet, which is still plenty of room for one large tumbler or several younger ones.

Though large, the width is nearly half that of a round model, so you can fit this trampoline into a much tighter space in the yard or driveway. The shape also felt more modern and aesthetically pleasing.

The frame is made of weather-resistant galvanized steel, and the UV-protected polypropylene jump mat (which is woven to prevent slipping) is held up by about 76 tightly coiled rust-resistant springs. What’s cool about the springs is that they come in two different sizes, which work together to launch your little one high into the air, making layouts and back tucks a breeze.

And, as with Skywalker’s round trampolines, this design is built with reinforced T-sockets, so the structure is super stable and can withstand heavy use without any warping.

Setup: Not for the novice constructor; be prepared with power tools

This trampoline was not easy to construct due to the sheer amount of parts and the complicated way the frame fits together. It’s definitely at least a two-person job, and it’s best if one of those people is comfortable with construction projects. Setup can be tackled by the average layperson, although it might be a slow process; it took our team of three about five hours total over the course of two days.

We found the instructions were clear and detailed, unlike some of the other trampolines we’ve assembled. The rectangular frame is slightly more complicated; it’s made with much heavier material than most trampolines, so it’s difficult to juggle several pieces at once. One person will need to hold the pieces in place as another person constructs. Your best bet is to lay the pieces out beforehand so you don’t get lost in a sea of steel, but we didn’t run into any snags.

Once the frame was done, the rest of the trampoline’s construction was easy going. We had no problem putting the netting and poles into place—nor with the bumpers that run alongside the jumping surface. The springs, like the frame, require a lot of forearm strength, as they have to be stretched from the canvas jump surface to the frame, and there isn’t much give to them. They are constructed of steel, after all.

Quality: Solid construction and design

The time put into the construction of the Skywalker rectangle trampoline was worth it. At no point have we seen even a slight give to the frame of the trampoline—not even when larger kids take tumble run after tumble run on it. It can withstand some serious acrobatic skills, and the springs keep their tension every time.

This trampoline probably isn’t the best option to accommodate casual jumpers—it’s much more narrow than a traditional trampoline, which would make it hard for three or four kids to jump and play like they could on a round surface. Still, there were times when there were multiple kids jumping on the trampoline at once, and between the strong netting and the super-strong springs, it kept bumps to a minimum.

There is no give between the frame and the netting, which eliminated our fear of a child falling through a weak area. The high quality of the netting also eased concerns that a bigger tumbler would launch into the net and cause it to come away from the frame.

Entertainment Value: Hard to pry tiny tumblers away from this trampoline

A lot of time has been spent perfecting back tucks on this trampoline recently. The overall consensus by the casual jumpers was that they prefer a round design, but when it came to the gymnasts and cheerleaders, the choice was the rectangle trampoline over and over. The bounce is higher, allowing tumblers to use the trampoline like they do the spring floor in the gym. It may not be the best option for families without tumblers, though. The design isn’t conducive to large groups or silly trampoline games.

Age Range: Heavier tumblers get more height

This Skywalker trampoline is recommended for ages 6 and up and has a weight capacity of 250 pounds. We tested it with children ranging from 7 to 16 and found that the trampoline is appropriate for both the younger children and the near-adults. The heavier kids were able to get more height in their bounce, but there were no complaints from the younger ones, either.

Ease of Cleaning: Tree debris and other earth matter

As with any trampoline, this item sits outside. It’s likely too large to fit inside anything other than a gym. Given that it is an outdoor toy, it is bound to get dirty. The kids climb on and off the trampoline in socks, tracking leaves, dirt, and more as they go. It’s easy to just sweep off any leaves or pine needles, though.

Price: A little pricey but a sound investment for a solid structure

The price tag for this trampoline ranges from about $500 to $800, depending on the options and where you find it. It’s on the slightly higher end for trampolines, but the solid construction and unique shape make it worth the cost.
