Soy Halibut Steaks

This is a quick and flavorful halibut recipe. The rich color of the basting sauce gives a lot of character to this dish. Serve on top of rice along with your favorite vegetables.

What You'll Need

  • 1 pound (450 g) halibut steaks
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) butter
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) 
  • brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (15 mL) lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon (15 mL) soy sauce
  • 1 to 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 to 3 small green onion, washed and finely chopped

How to Make It

1. Combine all ingredients, except the halibut, in a small saucepan over a medium heat. Mix until sugar is dissolved.

2. Preheat grill. Place halibut steaks on grill and cook on each side for about 5 minutes basting with sauce. Grill until done. Halibut should be opaque through to the middle and flake easily with a fork (an internal temperature of 145 to 150 degrees).

3. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped green onions, and serve.
