Six adjustable jets
Variety of finishes
2.5 GPM flow rate
Rainfall showerheads are easy to get swept up by, but you can’t go wrong with a classic showerhead like the Speakman Icon. While it looks like a rather basic fixture, the tiny gadget is packed with power. The showerhead employs six adjustable jets which pump water out at high speeds, and it’s compatible in homes with both low and high water pressure. Keep reading for everything you need to know about the Speakman Icon’s setup process, performance, design, price, and competition.
Setup Process: Extensive instructions, but simple to install
The Speakman Icon comes with step-by-step installation instructions as well as a list of troubleshooting pointers. In reality, though, it’s so simple to install, we were able to do so in just a few minutes and without referencing the reading material.
The Icon’s design includes a flat area around the screw base which allows you to get a better grip with an adjustable wrench. This made screwing and unscrewing significantly easier than other showerheads we’d installed. The fixture also came with Teflon (AKA plumbers tape); this is to aid with/eliminate leaks at the spout, but we didn’t see a need for it during or after installation.

Performance: Upgrades a simple shower to a stellar one
The Speakman Icon may be a simple showerhead, but it’s far from boring. The fixture has six adjustable jets that flow into 48 different sprays, lending the showerhead an even, full-bodied flow. The showerhead disperses 2.5 gallons of water per minute—something to consider if you’re looking to save on your water bill or just limit your water use.
There are three spray options: intense, rain, and flood. On the left-hand side of the spray nozzle, you’ll find a small swivel switch that allows you to jump between settings. Speakman calls this feature Anystream technology. Intense is exactly as it sounds—full pressure with a non-intersecting spray pattern. We think this flow compares to a pleasant water massage; it’s powerful enough to relax and soothe sore muscles, but doesn’t sting your skin. If intense is too powerful for you, try rain. This option offers a gentle flow that has more of an arch and larger water droplets. The increased size in droplets is said to keep water temperature steady for longer, as well. In our opinion, the third option—flood—is the most intense. Yes, we find flood even more intense than the actual intense setting, as its sprays are thick and heavy. We liken this flow to a waterfall.
Design: Sturdy and Minimal
The first thing we noticed about the Speakman Icon was its solid brass construction and subsequent heft. We found this really appealing, as many other “luxe” showerheads we’ve tested have turned out to be lightweight and plastic.

No matter your bathroom size or design, this showerhead is simple enough to compliment your space. It’s available in seven finishes: brushed nickel, polished chrome, oil-rubbed bronze, polished brass, polished nickel, satin brass, brushed bronze, and matte black.
Price: High-end quality, medium-range price
Don’t let the Speakman Icon’s petite size fool you. It may be small and unassuming in stature, but it’s equipped with everything you need to take your shower up a notch. While similar showerheads may range in price from $30 to $100, we find the $65 price tag to be well-deserved given its performance, quality construction, and breadth of finishes. A limited one-year warranty also covers most defects and damages (even post-purchase), so you can rest assured the company believes in its product.
Competition: Budget options are out there (but they won’t look or feel as nice)
Nicav 5-Setting Showerhead: This 4-inch fixed showerhead offers five different settings—mist, mist/rain, rain, rain/massage, and massage—for just $26. Like the Speakman, it also has a water output of 2.5 gallons per minute. The main difference between the Nicav and the Speakman Icon is build material. The former is made from polymer, as opposed to the latter’s solid brass construction. While the Nicav is still durable, its look and feel certainly isn’t as luxe.
Swelldom High Pressure Shower Head: If the Speakman Icon is out of budget but you want a fixed, compact showerhead with multiple settings, consider Swelldom’s offering. The $20 fixture has five modes—rain, mist, rain/mist, massage, and rain/massage—and you can install it in just minutes. Of course, it’s not constructed from solid brass, but the chrome finish will complement most bathrooms. It also has a flow rate of 2.5 gallons per minute.
