Halloween Guess Who is a Halloween party game in which each person guesses which Halloween character they've been assigned by getting clues from the other party guests. It is a great icebreaker game that will get your guests mingling and ready for a night of spooky fun. You can alter the character list to make the game work for kids or even to fit other celebrations throughout the year, such as Christmas parties.

How to Play Halloween Guess Who

As each guest arrives at the party, stick a label on their back with a Halloween character written on it. Be sure not to let the guest peek when you're applying their name label. Also make sure the character doesn't match the guest's Halloween costume; that would be too easy.

Begin the game by telling all of your guests that they aren't allowed to reveal the characters on each other's backs unless a person correctly guesses their character. It's not fun unless everyone fairly plays the game and doesn't cheat.

Then, have your guests mingle and ask each other "yes" or "no" questions to help them figure out which Halloween character is on their back. When a person makes a correct guess, they're allowed to move the label off their back and onto the front of their body. This way, everyone will know who has figured out their character.

There's no prize for who guesses their character first. You still want all guests to continue to interact, so everyone can figure out their characters.

As the game progresses and there are only a few people who haven't correctly guessed their characters, you can forget the "yes" or "no" question rule. Let guests start giving each other more specific clues until everyone knows their character identity.

The game can end when everyone makes a correct guess. Or you can carry on the game for the rest of the party and have guests stay in character.

Halloween Guess Who Game Variations

Here are some variations on the Halloween Guess Who game:

  • If you're having a themed Halloween party, pick characters that fit into your party theme.
  • If your guests are horror-movie savvy, give them only characters from such movies.
  • Use age-appropriate characters for kids, such as black cat and ghost.
  • You don't necessarily have to use Halloween-specific characters to play. Think of the popular Halloween costumes for the year, such as trending movie characters or pop culture icons, and use some of those.
