Conversation nooks are a great way to sit back, relax, and catch up with friends or family members, and we're here to help you create your own.
Not sure what exactly this type of space entails? "A conversation nook is just a small corner of your home where maybe two people can sit and chat away from a crowd, versus a conversation pit which is usually a sunken, dedicated area that seats a lot more people," explains designer Hema Persad. When setting up conversation nooks of her own, Persad follows a key strategy. "I look for a space in the home that's off to the side of the main action, so perhaps a living room corner near a window or even a corner of the dining room that's just outside the range of the dining table," she shares.

The foundation of your conversation nook is, of course, seating, on which people can kick back and gather. Designer Patti Wilson of Patti Wilson Design suggests opting for a piece that is not only comfortable but also is functional, such as a storage bench with drawers. Accent chairs are also essential, and you'll want to be mindful about how you position them. "Angling chairs towards each other without directly facing one another enhances the feeling of comfort, and promotes openness, allowing the conversation to flow," explains Noel Gatts of beam&bloom.

"To ergonomically work best, the side table should be level with the arm height of the chair, and cocktail table level with the lounge chair seat height," Isbell shares.
