I've been dairy-free (and was vegan) for a very long time now. I've tried all sorts of products, on their own and in my cooking and baking. So, while my word is still just one cook's and person's opinion, it's a good one. In general, I'm looking for taste, consistency of quality, and accessibility in the products I love.

So what's the verdict on Tofutti's Vegan Cream Cheese? LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.

Tofutti Vegan Cream Cheese Spreads and Bakes Like the Real Deal

Tofutti's Better Than Cream Cheese (I use the Non-Hydrogenated variety) spreads on toast like real cream cheese, thick and lightly sour. It isn't overly salty, doesn't have a weird beany aftertaste (here's looking to anyone who's tried a bad imitation cream cheese in the past), and doesn't get watery and weird when thrown into a quiche or casserole. It isn't oily or greasy either. The consistency is creamy but also, well, consistent; it doesn't separate. I hope that it doesn't sound like I'm overselling; it's just a really good product, and as you'll see below, I've used it for all sorts of recipes over the years. But is it better than real cream cheese you ask? This dairy-freer thinks so! And, if you're counting calories, Tofutti has half the calories and fat of leading brands of dairy-based cream cheese.

Where to Find Tofutti Vegan Cream Cheese

If you want to try out the cream cheese for yourself, it's pretty accessible here in the U.S. in mainstream groceries and specialty health food stores alike.

And, because--as I've said--I've been using this product for a long time, I've come up with quite a few recipes that really highlight all that this cream cheese can do. Whip it up in your favorite cheesecake recipe, or use one of my favorite Vegan Cheesecake Recipes. Layer it into a sandwich, wrap, or burrito.

Serve it with crackers and crudités. Cream it into a dip, or cut it into a pastry dough and make vegan rugelach. Dollop it on top of roasted vegetables and bake it in a quiche. It holds up and it tastes oh, so good (and honestly, maybe better than dairy).
