Toll House chocolate chip cookies are clearly America's favorite cookie recipe. This is my favorite version of the original recipe and makes large, chewy-in-the-center, crisp-on-the-edges, chocolate chip cookies.

What You'll Need

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, soft
  • 3/4 cup packed light
  • brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

How to Make It

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

2. Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt into a small bowl. In a large bowl and using an electric mixer, cream together the butter, sugars, and vanilla extract. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and beating well after each addition. Beat in the sifted ingredients until just blended. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.

3. Drop the dough by 1/4-cup portions about 3 inches apart on un-greased cookie sheets.

 Bake for 11 to 13 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges. Set the cookie sheets on wire racks to cool for 2  to 3 minutes, then transfer the cookies to the racks to cool completely.
