    Bathroom storage jars
Bathroom Storage - Ball Jars. Photo /

I am a sucker for ball jars, also known as mason jars, so every time I go into one of those antique stores that dot the kind of sleepy New England and upstate New York towns I like to visit, I always buy a ball jar. But for organizational purposes, any jar will do.

Jars, like trays, are great at collecting various one-off objects and making them look neat and tidy.

    • Desk accessories: pens and pencils, scissors, letter openers, etc.
    • Kitchen counter tops: ladles, wooden spoons, kitchen sheers, etc.
    • Bat...MOREhroom basin: toothpaste, tooth brushes, curling irons, hairbrushes, etc.

There are so many advantages to bins; they are ultra portable, a durable storage solution, and much better looking than a plastic shopping bag. You can just grab one, walk around your home get down to some serious decluttering.

In fact, I suggest you do this for 5-10 minutes every single day: grab a bin (not a trash can), wander your home from room-to-room, toss everything into the bin that’s out of place, and then put it back where it belongs. Voila: mobile, portable, easy clutter control.

Here...MORE are my picks for Top Plastic Storage Containers.

I am convinced that is it both physically and psychologically easier to clean up by placing (tossing?) things into bins that slide into cubbies than placing them on shelves. This is especially true for households with children. I like the expedit bookcase from Ikea which you can turn into a bin holder or use as a bookcase--or both. Cubbies, for the win! I am not only a total ball jar devotee, I am hopelessly devoted to Command Hooks which I feel are on par with other genius inventions like the little umbrellas that bartenders put in fruity beach cocktails. And Command Hooks are way, way more useful.

    • Hang mugs under your kitchen cabinets
    • Hang scarves, belts and hats in your clothes closet
    • Hang bags in your entry way, basement or attic
    • Hang kitchen towels, cooking tools and small appliances in your kitchen
    • Hang BBQ accessories in the garage or on the...MORE deck

The list goes on and on.

    Walnut Skirt Hangers

Using good hangers makes a big difference. Using quality hangers that are made to hold certain items of clothing and even linens makes all the difference in the world. Make sure you're using the right hangers. Don't try to hang a large overcoat or a hanger for a skirt, and try to discard the hangers from the dry cleaner ASAP.
