5 Great Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Tempt Your Tastebuds With These Crisp and Melty Sandwich Combinations

Grilled sandwiches are one of the best quick meals around, and can be eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner. These five recipes are favorites, including the simplest and tastiest grilled cheese sandwiches you'll ever taste.

The best and easiest way to make grilled cheese sandwiches that are crisp on the outside and warm and melty on the inside is to assemble the sandwich and then butter just the outsides of the bread, instead of cooking the sandwich in melted butter. Place the sandwich on a pr...MOREeheated griddle set to low heat and cover (use a pot lid big enough to cover the sandwich). Covering the sandwich helps the cheese melt quicker so you don't end up with golden bread and stiff cheese--or melted cheese and burnt bread. Grill until the first side is browned, then flip with a spatula and cover again, grilling until the second side is crisp. Cut in half and serve immediately.

Follow these recipes if you are in the mood for something classic, or use your favorite bread, cheeses, meats, fruits and vegetables along with your imagination to make a fabulous grilled cheese sandwich that may become one of your favorites.

The original Cuban sandwich was made with ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard and salami on Cuban-style bread. A later version eliminates the salami.
