Undermount Kitchen Sinks
Undermount kitchen sinks have one distinct advantage over rimmed or drop-in sinks: zero rim exposure. Of course, every sink has a rim, but undermount sinks hang from the underside of the countertop and so do not have a raised lip or rim that rests on top of the counter.
- You can get up as much as 1/2 square foot of extra countertop space when the rim is underneath the countertop.
- You can wipe counter debris straight into the sink—no rim to obstruct you.
- Undermount sinks are visually attractive since they do not interrupt the plane of the countertop.

- Unmount sinks are usually slightly more expensive than self-rimming sinks.
- The installation is more difficult, requiring clamps and adhesives.
- Over time the heavy weight of water and a garbage disposal may loosen then seal between the sink and the bottom of the countertop.
