From Rahaminov Diamonds…
Once you’re presented with an engagement ring, it’s time to start thinking about wedding bands. However, If your sweetie involves you in the engagement ring-shopping process, you should try on some wedding bands with any potential engagement rings you’re considering so that you can make a decision based on how the two rings look together. It’s totally fine, by the way, to purchase the wedding band later, closer to your wedding date.
Most brides wear their engagement ring and wedding band stacked together on the ring finger of their left hand—band first (closest to your heart). As such, a few ground rules: Many designers and manufacturers customize the gold alloys they use, so rings from two different sources will reveal slight differences in color. At the very least, if your engagement ring is 18k yellow gold, make sure the band, is too (14k yellow gold will look paler, duller next to richer, brighter 18k yellow gold). When set vertically, emerald cuts, marquise and ovals can bump up against a band if the stone’s set too low so look for bands that curve or dip slightly to allow room (see how Trabert Goldsmiths addresses this in slide 18). Finally, stackable rings are huge in fashion, and bridal jewelry designers and manufacturers are capitalizing on this trend by offering engagement ring sets with “guards” on either side—a three-part versus two-part look.
Your options vary greatly, so below, we make the case for a wedding band that…
Matches perfectly…The two rings will nest together nicely—no gaps or bumps—for a clean, uninterrupted look. You’ll be getting them from the same designer so there will be no metal color discrepancies, and if your engagement ring includes decorative details like engraving, filigree or pavé diamonds, the exact same details can surface in your wedding band. This unites the two rings, creating a single, seamless design story, in which the wedding band serves as a subtle complement to the star of the show: your engagement ring.
Has a similar vibe… In this scenario, many brides opt for a band in the same metal color (but perhaps sourced from a different designer), although mixing metals is a hot trend for 2017. So you can echo your engagement ring’s aesthetic, and maybe even make it pop a little more dramatically, by pairing, say, a platinum engagement ring with a rose-gold wedding band. Once you’ve chosen the metal, try to pick up one of the standout details of your engagement ring’s design to create a unified look without going the matchy-matchy route. Think diamonds (or colored stones) in the same shape as your engagement ring’s center stone (perhaps mixed with other cuts), a matte finish to contrast your engagement ring’s polished surfaces, or textural details to offset an engagement ring with a setting that's plain and unadorned.
Makes its own statement…Plenty of brides opt for a band that completely diverges from the look and feel of their engagement ring (head straight to slide 9 for a great example). This approach allows you to have two incredible wedding rings, each beautiful in its own right—for the wedding band, you choose something you love, something that perhaps expresses another side of your personality, and that’s the only goal (versus letting the design of your engagement ring dictate your choices). If, despite their obvious differences, the two rings sit well together on your finger you can wear them simultaneously, but it’s more common to wear the wedding band on its own (you swap the engagement ring in and out depending on your outfit and mood) or on the ring finger of your right hand.

From the designer: “These two ring were indeed specifically designed to be worn together! My client doesn't at all like the ‘matchy matchy’ look and wanted her band to have the more design-forward and intricate shank in ‘all pink’—rose gold and rubies. She wanted her ‘pink engagement ring’ to be simpler in design, with no detail on the band so that the stones reigned strong. She wanted both her rings to have a life of their own, but with their differences complementing each other.”Continue to 10 of 26 below.
