WORKPRO 100-Piece Tool Kit
We purchased WorkPro's 100-Piece Kitchen Drawer Tool Kit Review so our writer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.
Hanging pictures, changing batteries, tightening a screw, or two— there are a lot of reasons you might need a tool kit like the WorkPro 100-Piece Kitchen Drawer Tool Kit. You’re not using a home tool kit to build a home, but you should expect it to have the tools you need to maintain one. Home tool kits should have a few basic tools like a hammer, tape measure, screwdrivers, a socket set, and a pair of pliers. Factor in a case or toolbox to keep everything organized. We put the WorkPro to the test with basic household jobs. Keep reading to see how it held up and whether we’d buy it again.
Performance: Adequate for small jobs
The WorkPro has the basic tools you need around the house plus a few extras. None of the tools are high-quality, but for occasional housework every now and then, it probably has what you need.
The storage bag isn’t fancy, but it has elastic holders and Velcro straps to keep everything in place. It really is small enough to fit in a drawer as the name implies. We carried it around the house as we were measuring a space for bookshelves, replacing batteries, and opening boxes. It’s not heavy and is easy to carry around. Moving throughout the house, none of the tools fell out of their holders while in the case. We noticed that the elastic strap that held the sockets in place started to stretch at the edge. In time, we suspect the sockets will be rolling around in the case as the strap loses its elasticity.
Our favorite tool was the magnetic bit driver and bits. There are plenty of shapes and sizes to choose from, which we found handy when changing batteries in toys and remotes. Sometimes they come with odd screw sizes or shapes, and the WorkPro had us covered.
We also liked the level. It’s small but useful with its magnetic strip. We used it along with the measuring tape, hammer, and pliers to hang a picture in our office. The WorkPro included everything we needed, and we had the picture hung in about five minutes.
Our favorite tool was the magnetic bit driver and bits. There are plenty of shapes and sizes to choose from, which we found handy when changing batteries in toys and remotes.
Basic home maintenance tasks are about all this took kit can handle— hanging picture frames, changing batteries, putting together furniture. Anything beyond that and the quality and variety of tools may leave you in a bind.
Design: Lacking durability and large size options
We noticed low-quality and poor durability when we used the precision screwdrivers. It proved to be a problem with all four of them. The small heads on these screwdrivers make them perfect for toys, remotes, and even the small screws on a pair of eyeglasses. However, the handles pulled apart the first time we tried to remove them from the case. There’s a small plastic piece on the end that came off in our hands. It was easily replaced, but it didn’t bode well for the overall quality.
No other tools fell apart, but none of them feel particularly durable. The tape measure is lightweight, has a stop, and retracts well. The level is lightweight as are the handles of the precision screwdrivers.
You have to consider the purpose of this kit. It’s designed as an inexpensive tool kit to use in emergencies or for basic necessities. If you’re on a budget or you’re tight on space, this set may be all you need. We’d keep it at the office or in the kitchen, as the name suggests.
However, if you need to do any kind of larger home maintenance work like unclogging a sink or doing light remodeling, this probably isn’t the tool kit for you.
Included Tools: The basics plus a few extras
The sockets and hex keys come in fairly common sizes. However, we felt that they’re all on the small side. There’s a good chance you might need larger sizes, which means you’ll probably have to buy a few extra tools. The WorkPro 100-Piece Kitchen Drawer Tool Kit includes:
- 1/4-inch socket holder
- Nine sockets, sizes 5mm up to 13mm
- 6-inch combination pliers
- 6-inch longnose pliers
- 8-inch adjustable wrench
- 8-ounce claw hammer
- Four precision screwdrivers
- 3-meter tape measure
- 18mm snap-off knife (box cutter)
- Ten replacement knife blades
- 9-inch level
- Eight hex keys, sizes 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 6mm
- Magnetic bit driver handle
- Nineteen 1-inch screwdriver bits in two holders
- 1-inch adaptor for sockets
- 40 black cable ties (zip ties)
- 12-inch tool bag
Price: Affordable but spending more might be worth it
It’s hard to beat the price of the WorkPro 100-Piece Kit. If you live in an apartment, rent a small house, or need a spare tool kit in a car, office, or kitchen, this kit may suffice. However, we’d guess that most homeowners are going to need something that’s not included with the WorkPro like larger sized sockets, more screwdriver sizes, a heavier hammer, and maybe another set of hex keys. For anything more than the most basic of tasks, you’re probably better off with a more expensive kit.
Competition: Better quality at a higher price
Black & Decker 20V Max Drill & Home Tool Kit: If home improvement projects are in your future, this kit is probably a better choice than the WorkPro. It comes with an impressively powerful cordless drill that includes hole saws, spade bits, and screwdriver bits. You can get a lot of work done on a single charge. When you add in the rest of the kit, you’re getting a good value at a relatively affordable price.
Stanley 65-Piece Homeowner’s Tool Kit: This kit may not include a cordless drill, but the tool quality is definitely several steps above the WorkPro. A hard case holds two sets of hex keys, a greater range of magnetic driver heads, and higher-quality tools overall. If you’re looking for better quality and a wider variety of usage options, we’d go with this kit.
Good kit for the right situation.
There are plenty of places where a simple, inexpensive tool kit like the WorkPro would come in handy. However, we’d suggest getting a more substantial and higher-quality kit if you’re often pulling out tools for ongoing home maintenance projects.
